Shelters Bundle (digital PDF download)
Shelters Unit Bundle — Pilot Edition
Teacher Manual + Adventure Journal
Outdoor Survival: Applied Wilderness Skills
Grades 6–10 | A Pathfinder Learning Curriculum
The Shelters Unit Bundle includes both the Shelters Teacher Manual and the Shelters Adventure Journal (both as digital PDF downloads) for the Outdoor Survival: Applied Wilderness Skills curriculum. Designed for middle school and early high school students, this hands-on outdoor unit teaches students how humans use shelter systems to protect themselves from environmental conditions such as heat, cold, wind, precipitation, and ground moisture.
Through structured outdoor activities and engineering-based challenges, students construct and evaluate multiple shelter systems including lean-to shelters, tripod shelters, ridgeline shelters, bivy shelters, and hammocks. Students apply concepts from environmental science, heat transfer, engineering design, geography, and problem solving while working collaboratively in outdoor environments.
The Teacher Manual provides full instructional guidance, lesson plans, safety considerations, assessments, and activity organization, while the Adventure Journal gives students a structured workbook for notes, diagrams, reflections, design activities, and performance-based learning tasks.
Designed for use during the school day, the curriculum combines direct instruction with extended outdoor application and hands-on construction activities.
