Real Firemaking Skills
Students learn real firemaking skills through hands-on outdoor challenges that require them to build, manage, and use fire as a practical tool. As students practice a variety of ignition methods, campfire structures, and cooking techniques, they investigate the science of combustion, heat transfer, fuel selection, and airflow while developing problem-solving, responsibility, and risk-management skills.
Cross Curricular
The Fire & Cooking Unit integrates science, engineering, health, and outdoor skills as students investigate combustion, heat transfer, fuel selection, and safe food preparation. Through hands-on activities, students apply scientific concepts and problem-solving strategies to use fire as a practical tool for cooking, water purification, warmth, and survival.
