Real Navigation Skills
Students learn real navigation skills by using compasses, maps, GPS technology, and waypoints to solve practical outdoor navigation challenges. Through hands-on activities, students learn to determine direction, measure distance using map scale, read topographic maps and land features, and navigate confidently through unfamiliar terrain.
Cross Curricular
The Navigation Unit integrates geography, mathematics, science, and technology through real-world navigation challenges. As students work with maps, GPS coordinates, topographic maps, and scale, they apply concepts such as measurement, spatial reasoning, Earth's magnetic field, and geographic location in practical outdoor settings.
