The Navigation Teacher's Manual (digital PDF download) provides everything needed to teach the Navigation Unit of Outdoor Survival: Applied Wilderness Skills. Designed for middle school and early high school students, this unit develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to determine location, find direction, measure distance, interpret maps, and navigate unfamiliar environments.

Across six lessons, students explore relative and cardinal directions, compass use and magnetism, latitude and longitude, GPS technology, waypoints and routes, map reading, distance estimation, contour lines, and topographic maps. Each lesson combines direct instruction with hands-on outdoor activities that allow students to apply navigation concepts in authentic settings.
