Teacher's Manual
The Teacher's Manual is the instructor's guide for the unit. At approximately 100 pages, it contains six lessons and a culminating unit challenge, with each lesson designed around roughly 45 minutes of instruction and 45 minutes of hands-on outdoor activity. The manual includes learning objectives, background information, discussion questions, activity instructions, safety considerations, assessment guidance, and answer keys. While the lessons provide a clear structure, the curriculum is intentionally flexible and can be adapted to different schedules, class periods, student needs, and learning environments. In practice, outdoor activities often extend well beyond the planned 45 minutes as students become engaged in building, problem-solving, experimenting, and refining their work.
Adventure Journal
The Adventure Journal is the student workbook for the unit. Each unit includes its own 24-page Adventure Journal, designed to print as a simple foldable booklet (on six pieces of paper) and serve as the student's record of learning throughout the unit. The journal includes guided notes, diagrams, worksheets, assessments, and reflection prompts that align directly with each lesson. Students use the Adventure Journal to track lesson objectives, organize group roles and supplies, record observations and data, complete activities, and reflect on their learning. Integrated with the structure of the Teacher's Manual, the Adventure Journal helps students stay organized while documenting their progress through each lesson and the culminating unit challenge.
