The First Aid Teacher’s Manual (digital PDF download) is a hands-on outdoor survival curriculum designed for middle school and early high school students. Through realistic emergency scenarios and outdoor problem-solving activities, students learn how to respond to injuries and medical emergencies when professional medical care is not immediately available.

Students practice scene assessment, bleeding control, splinting, slings and swathes, concussion awareness, patient movement, and improvised evacuation techniques while developing communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. Lessons emphasize safety, prevention, situational awareness, and practical real-world application through structured outdoor learning experiences.

Designed for use during the school day, the curriculum combines direct instruction with hands-on outdoor activities and performance-based learning. Most lessons include approximately 30–45 minutes of instruction followed by extended outdoor application and scenario-based activities.

The pilot edition includes six core lessons:

• Stop a Severe Bleed
• Sling and Swathe an Arm Injury
• Splint a Lower Leg Injury
• Head Injuries and Concussions
• Self-Evacuation: Improvised Stretchers

The unit culminates in a hands-on challenge in which students respond to realistic outdoor emergency scenarios using the skills developed throughout the unit.
