Pioneering Unit Bundle — Pilot Edition

Teacher Manual + Adventure Journal
Outdoor Survival: Applied Wilderness Skills
Grades 6–10 | A Pathfinder Learning Curriculum

The Pioneering Unit Bundle includes both the Pioneering Teacher Manual and the Pioneering Adventure Journal (both as digital PDF downloads) for the Outdoor Survival: Applied Wilderness Skills curriculum. Designed for middle school and early high school students, this hands-on outdoor engineering unit teaches students how to build structures using poles, rope, knots, and lashings through collaborative construction challenges and real-world problem solving.

Through structured outdoor activities and performance-based engineering projects, students build tripods, ladders, human-weight structures, swings, bushcraft cots, and bridges while exploring how structures transfer force, distribute weight, and maintain stability. Students apply concepts from engineering design, proportionality, geometry, physics, teamwork, and iterative problem solving while working directly with full-scale materials outdoors.

The Teacher Manual provides full instructional guidance, lesson plans, safety considerations, assessments, and activity organization, while the Adventure Journal gives students a structured workbook for notes, diagrams, reflections, engineering investigations, and performance-based learning tasks connected to each lesson.

Designed for use during the school day, the curriculum combines direct instruction with extended outdoor application and hands-on structure-building activities. Supplies not included.
